Week by Week: Week 16

I am very behind on my journaling!!! It is April 7th.... yikes! So much has been happening! Luckily, the answers to the questions below don't really change at all from week to week (so far). I am still not really showing, but we have begun telling more people now that I am in the 2nd trimester (yay!). We have told immediate family (we told Julian's aunts, uncles, and grandma over the phone, and told the Overholt side of the family and the Walkers at Easter, and the Jarvie side over the phone). We've both told our bosses, but haven't made it public knowledge at work. We've been working through our close friends, telling them when we see them. It was been so fun to share our news!!

How Far Along?  16 weeks!
Maternity Clothes? Pants are now getting slightly tighter. I used a hair tie to shut a pair of "skinny jeans" last week so I could still wear them, and Julian bought me a pair of pants from Motherhood. They aren't full maternity pants, but have some good stretch in them for the next month or so and for the time period after I give birth.

Weight Gain? It is so hard to tell! My weight fluctuates 2-3 pounds when I weigh myself at home, but I am estimating that I have gained a total of 6-7 pounds so far... maybe 8.
Stretch Marks? No!
Sleep? It's actually been better than usual the past couple of days, since I actually slept through the night (didn't get up to pee) the last 2 nights!
Best Moment of the Week? Well, the best moments of the past weeks have been telling people, and all of the excitement and joy that is pouring on us. :)
Movement? Can't feel it yet, but this is the first week where I could possibly start feeling it, although I think it's more typical to feel it later.
Gender? No idea yet- I need to schedule an ultrasound!  Julian is leaning towards a boy, as is my mom, whereas Julian's mom and sister are voting for girls. The grandfathers seem to have no preference, as long as it's healthy!
What I miss? Last week I thought a deli sandwich or a salad sounded good, but I am trying to stay away from that due to listeria. But it's not really anything major!
Symptoms: The main symptoms recently have been a lot of hunger (Julian makes me gigantic breakfasts so I don't get hungry right away at work), and unfortunately, irrational crying. I will get a little upset about something, and know that it's not a big deal, but I can't calm down and I end up sobbing. It's happened really badly twice now, and not so intensely several more times. I have had a lot more energy lately though, which has been great!

What I’m looking forward to? Feeling the baby move! I also need to schedule things, like the ultrasound and the birthing classes.
Milestones: Baby is now an avocado! Our Gonzalito has been growing a lot, from a lime, to a lemon, to an apple, and now an avocado!

Emotions: Very happy, but currently disappointed that I haven't been keeping up with this! Also, sometimes it feels surreal that I'm really pregnant, since it's not really that noticeable yet. When we tell people, they have been thinking that I'm not as far along as I am. But I should be grateful for that since it's allowed us to wait to tell people (especially at work) while we learn about different options!

Week by Week: Week 12

March 13th 2013

We told mom and dad, and Bryan and Laney at the end of week 11! It is SO nice to have our closest family "in the know." We enjoyed surprising Santi, Raquel, and Moni over video chat so much that we decided we would do something similar for my parents. Julian told them that he took a test for his job, and that he got really great results. Mom said, what, like 98%? And he said, no, two lines, and I held up the pregnancy test. The shock on their faces was priceless! They are SO excited about being grandparents :) Bryan and Laney suspected a bit, so they weren't as surprised (we used the same technique of telling about a test over video chat), but they are still excited about being aunt and uncle!

How Far Along?  12 weeks!
Maternity Clothes? Same as before.... I think I was more bloated than anything during the first weeks, because all but 1 pair of jeans still fits now, but a few other pairs of pants hadn't fit several weeks ago.

Weight Gain? Still about the same! I think I've gained 1-2 pounds overall.
Stretch Marks? No!
Sleep? Pretty good!
Best Moment of the Week? Telling my parents, Bryan and Laney, and getting happy calls from all the grandparents!
Movement? Well, Baby G is moving, but I can't feel it.
Gender? No idea, and still not sure if I have a preference. Sometimes I think about a "she" and sometimes a "he."
What I miss? Not really anything right now!
Symptoms: Heartburn and gassiness in the evenings... not too pleasant, but not awful. Also, I have had more mood swings in the last week. Poor Julian!

What I’m looking forward to? Our next appointment, and setting things up (like our Bradley classes, and figuring out furniture and registries).
Milestones: Baby is a lime! And we ran our first 8k. I ran for two and did a lot better than I thought- I thought I would have to walk a lot of it, but I jogged almost all of it, and ended in under an hour!

Emotions: Very happy, and very thankful.

Week by Week: Week 11

March 3rd 2013

We told Santi, Raqui, and Moni our big news yesterday! We will tell my parents, and Bryan and Laney, in the next few days. We decided that we would tell our Colombian family over a video chat online, and the only time to do that was on the weekend. So, we chatted, and then told them that I took a test and got really positive results. Julian asked if they wanted to see the test, and they said sure. So then I held up our pregnancy test, and Julian held up the baby socks we bought, and we all started crying!!! :) It was so nice :) I am really looking forward to telling my parents next! We mailed their surprise on Saturday morning, and I am really anxious for it to get there!

How Far Along?  11 weeks!
Maternity Clothes? Same as before.... not sure that I have grown any this last week!

Weight Gain? Still about the same. Maybe 1 pound more than my original weight, but I'm not really sure.
Stretch Marks? No!
Sleep? Pretty good!
Best Moment of the Week? Telling Julian's parents and sister.
Movement? Nope.
Gender? Raquel and Moni are voting for a girl :)
What I miss? Not anything substantial! I don't think I've mastered ordering when we go to restaurants. I got something yesterday that ended up having a lot of cold chicken salad in it... which I think is something on the do-not-eat list, but I wasn't really sure, so I ate some of it and also ate some of Julian's hot dish. Praying that baby is safe, and I'm trying to read more about dos and don'ts... trying to keep everything straight!
Symptoms: Same as before- hunger, light-headedness, and heartburn. Haven't had any nausea lately though. Thank you, God!

What I’m looking forward to? Telling my parents! I can't wait, but I really want it to be a surprise so I've been trying to play it super cool.
Milestones: Baby is a fig! And starting to grow tooth buds!

Emotions: Very happy, and very thankful.

Week by Week: Week 10

February 24th 2013

This has been a good week :) We FINALLY had our first prenatal appointment. It was so exciting, especially when the midwife who saw us was the same midwife who we saw for our preconception appointment! The exam and blood tests were all fine, except that I am low in iron and have to take a disgusting tasting iron supplement a couple of times a day. Also, we had been waiting for the appointment to finally tell our parents, because we wanted to record the heartbeat and play it for our family in Colombia over the phone. But, Baby Gonz hid from us, and we didn't get to hear the heartbeat. Our midwife said it was completely normal at 9.5 weeks, so we should hear the baby's heartbeat the next time we go in.

How Far Along?  10 weeks!
Maternity Clothes? No. Same as before!
Weight Gain? I think I'm about the same as before I was sick. I need to get some new batteries for my scale so I can better monitor things, but everything fits the same.
Stretch Marks? No!
Sleep? Pretty good!
Best Moment of the Week? Going to our prenatal appointment.
Movement? Nope.
Gender? No idea!
What I miss? Nothing really...
Symptoms: Still light-headedness if I don't eat every 2-3 hours, and some aversion to certain foods. But a new symptom is heartburn at the end of the day. Still nothing crazy though- I am so thankful!

What I’m looking forward to? Telling our parents! We have to rethink our plan for Colombia, because we do NOT want to wait another 4 weeks!!!!
Milestones: Baby is a kumquat.... I'm not really sure what that is, but bigger than a quarter :)

Emotions: Very happy and very thankful. A little disappointed that we couldn't hear the heartbeat though.

Week by Week: Week 9

February 18th 2013

This weekend threw us for a little loop! On Friday morning I was cleared to discontinue my antibiotic eye drops. I had Valentine's leftovers for lunch, and went out to dinner with my coworkers to celebrate a lot of fun things (new jobs, engagements, birthdays, etc. And I was secretly celebrating our little baby!). A combination of ordering heavy food, eating too much, and being pregnant then lead me to throw everything us all night on Friday. Saturday I was still sick, and Sunday I spent the day recuperating. Not much fun, but a good reminder that I can't eat things like I used to!

Baby is the size of a grape

How Far Along?  9 weeks!
Maternity Clothes? Nope! Some work pants are a little tight, but I can still fit into them. I can't wear all of my jeans though.
Weight Gain? I definitely lost 3-4 pounds this weekend...
Stretch Marks? No!
Sleep? Good! One nice thing about being sick is also being able to rest. I definitely rested a lot!
Best Moment of the Week? Getting ready for our appointment on Thursday, and preparing cards to send to our parents, to tell them our BIG news!!
Movement? Nope.
Gender? No idea!
What I miss? Not telling people. But we will tell our parents this week! :)
Symptoms: Nausea, stomach troubles.... lots of thirst, light-headedness when I wasn't eating enough this weekend.

What I’m looking forward to? Trying to hear the heartbeat at our appointment this week, and telling our parents!
Milestones: Baby is a grape :)

Emotions: Happy and very grateful that I haven't had to deal with much sickness, compared to many other pregnancies... One night of sickness isn't so bad in the scheme of things, when I think it could be every day!
